Silver Birch
The Silver Birch is a rare endemic species of flora and it is protected by a Regional act in Campania. It can be found in the Monti Lattari Regional Park, in the Partenio’s Mountains, in Cilento and the Vesuvio. The trunk is slender with a white and smooth bark. The leaves are triangular, with a broad base and pointed tip, and coarsely double-toothed serrated margins. The flowers are wind-pollinated catkins, produced before the leaves in early spring, the small (1–2 mm) winged seeds ripening in late summer on pendulous.
It can be found in damp broad-leaved wood, spruces and shrubs areas. This plant is used as an ornament for its elegance.
