It is a cephalopod mollusk with fuse-shaped body, extended and bordered with a pair of triangular fins on the posterior part. Just like the red squid is equipped with eight short sucker arms and two longer tentacles. The shell is internal and the color of the back is variable but generally dark-reddish with light spots. The squid, which is a pelagic species, lives in large schools reaching until 100 meters of depth. It is caught with fish traps or with longline fishing.
