Rock Partridge

The Rock Partridge is a gamebird in the pheasant family Phasianidae of the order Galliformes, gallinaceous birds.

This bird can be found in the Alps’ arch and on the Appennines. In the province of Salerno it can be found in the Cilento e Vallo di Diano National Park, on the Alburni Mountains and on the Picentini Montains.

It can be recognized for its very noisy and intense song, especially during the spring when the male use it to mark off its territory and seduce a female in order to form a couple. In May-June the female lays the eggs (from 8 to 14) which are incubated for 24-26 days. The nestlings are immediately able to follow the mother in the search for food.
