Conger Eel
Average size: 1 m
Maximum size: over 2 m
The Conger Eel has got a snake-like body, cylindrical, slimy and with no scales. The skin is covered in mucus. The mouth is very big with very tiny and sharp teeth. The jaw is a little bit longer than the lower one. It is mainly grey-black with a whitish belly. Some specimen can weigh up to 50 kg. The most usual fishing technique used for this fish are fish-trap, longfishing and gill net. In the Amalfi Coast it is usually caught with fish-trap and occasionally with the so called “filaccioli”, made of long lines anchored on the rock with a big fish-hook, while on the other end philchards, shads or pieces of cephalods are fixed.
