Lanner Falcon

The lanner falcon can be found on the mountains of the Cilento e Vallo di Diano National Park. It can be distinguished from the peregrine falcon for its thinner body, the smaller tail and the lower frequency of flapping its wings. Males have a wingspan of 1 cm, while females can reach 110 cm. The lanner falcon can reach 300 km/h in nose-dive, almost as much as the peregrine falcon.

As other species of falcons, the Lanner falcon has suffered from poaching during the 50s and 60s. It is commonly classified as “at risk”. In the 2003-2004 has been presented the ”National Action Plan for the Lanner protection” from the National Institute for the Wild Fauna.
