Myrtle (Myrtus communis) is a shrub of the Myrtaceae family typical of the Mediterranean.
It is common in the Mediterranean, and in large areas of the Province of Salerno.
Myrtle is a tolerant plant, it can live in quite poor soils and through drought but it benefits from water supplies and the availability of nitrogen
Myrtle is attributed with balsamic, anti-inflammatory, astringent and slightly antiseptic characteristics and therefore is used in herbal and pharmaceutical field for the treatment of diseases of the digestive system and the respiratory system.
The use of myrtle dates back to the middle Ages.
