John Dory
Average size: 35 cm
Maximum size: 65 cm
This fish has an extremely laterally compressed body, covered in microscopic scales. The head is 1/3 of the body, with a very big mouth. The dorsal fin is formed by very long spines. The body is olive-yellow with a large dark spot on both sides which, according to the legend, is supposed to be the print of the San Peter’s fingers when he caught a John Dory and, after founding a gold coin in its mouth, decided to throw it in the water again.
