The Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis), is a pine native to the Mediterranean area. It is found in the Cilento coast, especially in the town of Castellabate, between Punta Licosa and Ogliastro Marina. It can reach 25 meters but is usually not higher than 15 m. The bark is reddish and thick but gets darker and with finer scales upwards. The leaves are needle-shaped, 5-10 cm long, very thin and soft, gathered in clusters of two, they are light green in their colour. This pine - inserted in the national Red List - is very hard and drought-resistant it grows up to 1500 m of altitude. It is used for reforestation of very poor soils due to its rapid growth.
