The common buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium-to-large bird of prey, that lives in any zones around Europe and Asia, except from the coldest ones, and, in Italy, can be observed in province of Salerno.
The common buzzard reproduces in woodlands but favours hunting over open land. A great opportunist, it adapts well to a varied diet of small or medium mammals such as rabbits and birds, but also snakes, lizards and animal carrions.
This broad-winged raptor has a wide variety of plumages, and in Europe can be confused with the similar subspecies and groups. The plumage can vary from almost pure white to black, but is usually shades of brown, with a pale 'necklace' of feathers.
A typical characteristic of the common buzzard is the ability to fly for wide and long distances and, while flying, its wings are slightly lifted from the body, shaping a “V” when seen from the forward part.
