Small red scorpion fish
Average size: 15-20 cm
Maximum size: 35 cm
This fish has a big head, as well as his eyes (from what his named “uocchiebelle” (nice eyes) in local dialect). It has cephalic spines but smaller than other’s kind of rockfish. Mouth and pectoral fins are pretty large compared to the body. The body is red-yellowish with bright spots, 5 or 6 transversal darker strip and a blackish spot on the dorsal fin. The small red scorpion is a demersal species that can be found from 20m to 1000m of depth, but mostly it lives at 100/300 of depth. It is caught with fish-traps and occasionally with longline fishing.
