Red Mullet

Average size: 18 cm

Maximum size: 40 cm

The head is pretty big, with a convex profile and prominent eyes. There are two characteristic barbells on the lower jaw. The body is stretched and covered in large scales which easily come away. The colour is usually pink, with some yellowish strokes. The red mullet is a necto-benthic species which lives in small shoals and can be found up to 100 meters of depth. Its habitat are rocky or sandy bottoms. The most efficient fishing technique for this kind of species are fish-traps. The minimum allowed size for fishing is 11 cm.
