The Common fig (Ficus carica L.), is a fruit tree that in Italy is present mainly in Puglia and Calabria. In Campania it is also present in many areas of the five provinces.
The plant is very drought resistant and grows in the regions where also the vine, olive and citrus is grown. The fig tree suffers much of climatic changes, especially the low temperatures and in fact this can completely destroy the production.
Damage can be caused by viruses and insects some harmful insects are the fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and the psyllid fig (ficus Homotoma).
