Red-billed Chough

The Red-billed Chough is a bird in the crow family, about 40 cm long, long legs and with a glossy black plumage, with blue reflections. The wings are short, the bill is sharp and slightly curved, often red colored. It can be found in the Province of Salerno but especially in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park.

It has a buoyant acrobatic flight, very elegant. It is friendly with others wounded mates. If they see something suspicion, they warn each other with loud calls all the other mates and sometimes they even group In flock to attack other raptors passing by.

The red-billed chough is a protected species in Italy. It is part of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) and evaluated as LC-Least Concern.
