Old World Swallowtail
The Old World Swallowtail is a butterfly of the family Papilionidae, basically tropical of which only 9 species can be found in Italy. It has become the symbol of the WWF’s protected oasis Diecimare Natural Park in the province of Salerno, thanks to its presence in the area.
This butterfly is very elegant and multicoloured and it attracts many tourists especially in the spring’s months. The wings are large and showy, with yellow and red vein markings, a wide jaggy blue stripe and a pink red spot eye-shaped on the back wings. Grabs are usually green covered in red and black spots.
