Lesser Horseshoe Bat
The lesser Horseshoe bat can be found all over Italy even if its population is rapidly decreasing. In the Campania Region is becoming rarer and rarer. It has been seen in the Monti Lattari Regional Park and in particular in Ravello, Scala, Piano di Sorrento, Vico Equense, Maiori and Amalfi. This is the smallest of the European horseshoes and can be recognized from the others for its back slightly darker and the shape of the nose. The lesser horseshoe bat has an irregular and oscillating flight and it goes out in the open half-hour after the sunset. It lives in woody areas while in winter it hang upside down in caves, tunnels or cellars.
