Nightjar
The Nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus, Linnaeus 1758) is together with the Caprimulgus ruficollis the only European bird of the family Caprimulgidae. The species is divided in 6 subspecies such as the C. e. europaeus and the C.e. meridionalis.Its presence is indicated by its song that sounds like a soft mechanical trill which rises and falls as it vibrates. It can sing for hours continuously. During the springtime migration the nightjar can be seen in all over the Monti Lattari Regional Park. It nests in woody or shrubby areas. It hunt in open areas. It lives in windy and deforested areas but also rocky and sandy areas typical of the Mediterranean habitat.
