Common Pipistrelle
The common pipistrelle is one of the most widespread in Italy. According to the data from the Monti Lattari Regional Park, it has been seen in the city of Cava dei Tirreni and Maiori. It is a highly versatile species from the ecological point of view and it can live in every kind of habitat, even the most urbanized areas.
This is the smallest chiropters in Italy, with its 4 cm of length, 5g of weight and a wingspan of 20 cm. It is a nocturnal species. During the day it find shelter in cracks, wall’s interstices or in tree’s cavities which leaves during the night (even if in spring and autumn it can even go out in daylight). Its flight is quick and with pretty irregular trajectories, between 2 and 10 meters high, in open areas. During winter it hibernates in small groups of about ten individuals or even alone.
